Vekk: Or more accurately, his voice. It sounds a heck of a lot like “Brain” from the WB cartoon piece, “Pinky and the Brain.” Many had fears that it would be some squeaky high-pitched chipmunk voice, and I’m glad to see A-Net went the other way. If it actually is the guy who did the voice for Brain, kudos to the agent who got a hold of him. There’s a certain rightness given with the intertextuality of having the voice of an arrogant super smart race performed by the guy who once played a Lab Mouse bent on taking over the world with his uber intellect.
Random Hunting bonuses: When you have a Norn bounty, you get these after every 25 kills. There are a few different ones. All are pretty neat in some way or another.
Solo Missions (with Kilroy): So far it’s pretty cool. Challenging because it asks you to leave the comfort zone of your familiar skill bar, and you have to be more self-reliant that when Mhenlo is following you around with a wack of healing skills.
New Skills on Hench: I actually picked Devona for my group cause I find her speed boost from “Charge!” can speed play along nicely, but was pleasantly surprised to see her using Backbreaker – a skill more in line with the hammer touting lass. I expect some of the other hench might have had similar tweaks for better synergy in their builds.
Multi – classed bad guys: I hadn’t noticed this right off my self, but after a guildie pointed it out it stuck in my mind a bit more. I could be mistaken on this one, but I swear I saw a Dervish bad guy shadow step to me in combat. It was surprising, and neat… if it happened like I thought it did. Folks were hoping for this kind of thing in HM. I’m glad to see (if I saw correctly) that A-Net took this idea and added it into NF.
Talking (vocal/audio) NPCs: A bit of a shame that the henchmen didn’t get little voice tags too, but it’s neat to hear merchants and quest givers make an opening statement.
Not a complete list by any means, but there are still some places I have yet to explore. I just felt I should acknowledge the things I liked about the preview, since I’ve been spending a considerable amount of time harping on flaws in the HoM (still not happy about that).
